If you chose to walk the entire length of the Way of St. James in the Weinviertel region, Asparn an der Zaya marks the destination of the second day stage. Embedded in the region of the Leiser mountains, it offers a combination of culture and nature experiences.

The Order of the Minorites

The municipality of Asparn an der Zaya has been shaped by the Minorites, an order that goes back to Francis of Assisi. The desire to live Jesus' message authentically leads the saint on the paths that run through Europe. This connects the St. James pilgrims with Francis, the patron saint of animals. The two side chapels in the parish church of Asparn an der Zaya are dedicated to him and one of his most popular friars, St. Anthony of Padua.
