Municipality of Grafenegg

Modernity meets romanticism.

Leaving the municipality of Grafenwörth, one enters that of Grafenegg, where a real highlight awaits pilgrims: the third St. James' church is located along the path, in Etsdorf am Kamp.

Mostly known through its annual music festival, the municipality of Grafenegg also includes Etsdorf am Kamp with its St. James' church and captivates predominantly with its castle.

St. James' church in Etsdorf am Kamp

Located in the municipality of the market town of Grafenegg, the St. James' church in Etsdorf invites one to stop, linger and pray. The church is dedicated to St. James the Greater and it stages a festival in his honour every year on the 25th of July. Due to a fire in Greifenstein castle, the church's history can not be traced precisely. Originally, it dates back to the 13th century but even today, it stands out with its core from the middle ages and its Baroque hall construction.

Things to see in Grafenegg

One of the most renowned buildings in Grafenegg is the castle which is known far beyond the borders thanks to numerous cultural events that are being staged there. Being the most important Romanticist castle structure in Austria, Grafenegg castle's origins date back to the middle ages. Its library, knights' hall, coat of arms parlour, castle chapel and castle park impress and should not be missed.
